The Indian government’s new food delivery platform, the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), is quickly gaining momentum as a significant competitor to established platforms such as Zomato and Swiggy. The ONDC allows restaurants to sell food directly to consumers, removing the need for a middleman. Although it has been available since September 2022, it is currently gaining popularity, with reports stating that it has recently exceeded 10,000 daily orders. Users are also comparing prices with Swiggy and Zomato and finding that ONDC is relatively cheaper, as seen in screenshots being shared online.

How to use ONDC to order food and other items?
ONDC can be accessed through the UPI platform Paytm. To use ONDC, users can type ‘ONDC’ in the search bar, which will display a variety of options ranging from groceries and cleaning essentials to food stores. For ordering food specifically, users can type ‘ONDC Food’ and browse the available cuisines. Similar to Swiggy or Zomato, ONDC then displays restaurant options, and food is delivered to the user’s doorstep upon ordering. It is worth noting, however, that as ONDC is still a relatively new platform, not all restaurants have begun selling food through it.
