To delete your Facebook account permanently, follow these steps:
- Log In: Sign into the Facebook account you want to delete via the app or website (facebook.com).
- Access Settings:
- On a browser: Click your profile picture in the top-right corner, then select Settings & Privacy > Settings.
- On the app: Tap the three-line menu (bottom-right on iOS, top-right on Android), then go to Settings & Privacy > Settings.
- Go to Accounts Center:
- Click or tap Accounts Center (found in the left menu on desktop or under See More on the app).
- Navigate to Deletion:
- Select Personal Details > Account Ownership and Control > Deactivation or Deletion.
- Choose Deletion:
- Select your Facebook account, then choose Delete Account and tap Continue.
- Confirm Deletion:
- Follow the prompts, enter your password, and confirm. Facebook will provide a 30-day grace period to cancel the deletion by logging back in. After 30 days, the account is permanently deleted, though some data may take up to 90 days to be fully removed.
Notes:
- Download your data (photos, posts, etc.) beforehand via Your Information and Permissions > Download Your Information if you want to keep it.
- Deleting also removes access to Messenger and linked apps (e.g., Meta Quest data).
- Deactivation is an alternative for a temporary break—select that option instead if preferred.
